Last year, the NDP Boy’s Track team ousted Higley by twelve points to win the 4A-II State Championship. But on May 15, 2010, it was the Lady Saints’ turn, winning first place overall above Desert Edge and Mingus.
Freshman sensation Rachel Johns literally ran circles around the competition, compiling first place points in the 100m and 200m, as well as in the 4x400m relay team. The state relay team was composed of Sophomore Marcella Cartledge, Junior Shelby Haugen, Senior Sammi Stolper, and last but not least, Rachel Johns.
The Boys’ Team posted an impressive top five finish, and while a repeat championship was the goal, there is plenty of room for improvement.
Assistant Coach Sam Fox won a consecutive state title with the Girls’ team victory, and Coach Derry won his first title as Head Coach. The track banquet is Mon., May 24, and athletes and parents will be recognized for their efforts this season.
