The Mollen Immunization Clinic will be on campus from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 28 to administer flu vaccines to faculty, staff and students, according to School Nurse Darlene Best.
The flu season starts in October and peaks in January, February and March, according to the Centers for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC), and cases are already being reported, meaning the season is starting early this year.
The latest vaccine protects against three strains of flu, including the H1N1 virus (also known as swine flu).
Previously the CDC recommended only those over 65 or who are medically weak be vaccinated, but now it recommends everyone older than 6 months of age be vaccinated.
Activity surrounding the flu is constantly being analyzed by experts each week for new findings and to keep the public well informed.
