The Seraphim staff received 17 awards at the Arizona Interscholastic Press Association’s first annual Spring Recognition Reception April 29 at the ASU Walter Cronkite School of Journalism.

Fall Editor Aleksa Krolls and Spring Editor Federika Cariati represented the staff along with Adviser Ms. Jan Carteaux at the event, which recognizes the winners of the AIPA Spring Contest for last semester’s work. Phoenix Attorney David Bodney spoke on “High School Journalism Matters.”

This is the third time The Seraphim has entered the competition for student journalists, according to Ms. Carteaux. The staff won 15 awards in the Spring 2009 and 18 in the Fall 2009 competitions, including a General Excellence Award last fall, which was not a category in this spring’s contest.

“We had two print editions last fall instead of three, resulting in fewer entries for the contest,” she said. “I am proud of our staff for doing so well.”
